On December 1st, residents of the Velvet Room wake up to find the world outside transformed for the holidays. Lights have been strung in trees and along awnings; Christmas music plays in shops and busy squares, or, if you're in the area, blares at every hour from the top of the Tokyo Skytree for all around to hear, whether they like it or not. Some of the bundled-up cognitions that hurry through the cold are now laden with festive shopping bags, and others linger thoughtfully outside shop windows.

Jack Frosts dart around, pressing mugs of hot chocolate into your hands or perhaps performing small acts of mischief. Occasionally you might see a King Frost, or even a Black Frost if you're lucky (or unlucky?). Ponds and rivers have frozen over in the night, and someone—maybe one of the Jack Frosts—has set out benches and sets of ice skates. If there are no such convenient bodies of water, man-made ice rinks have been installed in public places, surrounded by booths selling hot drinks and towering, beautifully decorated Christmas trees.

But none of that matters too much. Because on December 1st, you might wake up to more than just holiday decor.

Igor and his attendants have, in their wisdom, malevolence, generosity, madness, or whatever you believe about their motives, seen fit to meddle with the ages of some of the residents. Maybe they've transformed you back into a helpless child or gangly adolescent. You might have no idea where you are—after all, you're just a child! The last thing you remember might be playing in your parents' home. Or perhaps you wake up to find wrinkles and joint pain you didn't have when you went to sleep. As far as your memory goes, you left the Velvet Room on November 30th, went home, and lived your life for twenty years, only to return now.

Or maybe your memory remains unaltered, with only your physical form changing. Or you might be one of the lucky ones who wakes up the same as they were when they went to sleep. In the latter case, good luck! You have an interesting month ahead of you. Especially since waking up unchanged on December 1st is not a guarantee that you'll stay that way...

[[[That's right: Coming this holiday season to a VRDR near you, an Age Fuckery event! To reiterate, this is an optional event where you can age your character up or down, giving them memories appropriate to that age or allowing them to remain cognitively the same, just in a different-shaped body. This event kicks off now, December 1st, though you can also have your characters age up or down later in the month if this doesn't work for you. The event ends on New Year's Eve; at the turn of the new year, everyone will transform back into themselves.]]]

Well, this certainly wasn't where Teddie fell asleep last night. Oh, yesterday was meant to be perfect! But it got ruined. Poor Sensei, his special day was soured by his teacher's death! Still, he didn't let it get him down. He was supposed to be sleeping in Yosuke's house since he had nowhere to go in Inaba. Did Yosuke pull a prank on him?

...No, probably not. Yosuke isn't super rude like that. Still, he should try to find someone. He looked around and saw the board in the room, with a bunch of names, but didn't really read any of them. "Something is beary off here!"

Before he talked himself in a circle of wondering, he did catch a whiff of something in the air... Still, he couldn't pinpoint it. Oh well! Might as well call out and see if anyone's here.

"Helloooooooo! Sensei?! Ake-chan?! Anyone here?"

Hello, friends! It's about to be December again, and you know what that means: the fact I am posting this actually before December 1 means [staff profile] karzilla reminded me about the existence of linear time again. Wait, no -- well, yes, but also -- okay, look, let me back up and start again: it's almost December, and that means it's time for our annual December holiday points bonus.

The standard explanation: For the entire month of December, all orders made in the Shop of points and paid time, either for you or as a gift for a friend, will have 10% of your completed cart total sent to you in points when you finish the transaction. For instance, if you buy an order of 12 months of paid time for $35 (350 points), you'll get 35 points when the order is complete, to use on a future purchase.

The fine print and much more behind this cut! )

Thank you, in short, for being the best possible users any social media site could possibly ever hope for. I'm probably in danger of crossing the Sappiness Line if I haven't already, but you all make everything worth it.

On behalf of Mark, Jen, Robby, and our team of awesome volunteers, and to each and every one of you, whether you've been with us on this wild ride since the beginning or just signed up last week, I'm wishing you all a very happy set of end-of-year holidays, whichever ones you celebrate, and hoping for all of you that your 2026 is full of kindness, determination, empathy, and a hell of a lot more luck than we've all had lately. Let's go.

[A message appears on the network in the wee hours of the morning. No, he did not spend an indeterminate amount of time exploring Tartarus. And getting stuck, because the Dark Hour exists in a small sliver of time. Of course not. That would be absurd.]

I have to ask, regarding Tartarus...

Is there a reason the walls have faces? Some of the floors appear more like ordinary corridors. Others seem more industrial. Then there are the floors which are a literal eyesore that I can only imagine would be worse if it weren't for my sunglasses.

But the faces...

I don't believe I'm going to sleep soundly tonight.

Perhaps I ought to start preparing some baked goods for the holiday season. Who says you can't bake at two in the morning? This is a lawless land. Nothing is stopping me.

[Sleep deprivation? Never heard of her!]
